The Tvrdalj was as important to Hektorović as his poem Fishing and Fishermen's Complaints. He built it slowly, a closed world with a pond for the grey mullet, inscriptions in the walls, rooms for guests and for the poor. The courtyard is the thing to see: still water, stone arcades, a little green. It is not large. It does not need to be.
