The Benedictine community has lived in Hvar since 1664, in rooms that once belonged to the poet Hanibal Lucić's family. Beside the monastery stands the baroque church of St Anthony. The lace — worked from the fibres of the agave, a patience measured in years — is the reason the house is known beyond the island. It is not a shop window. Ask, and go quietly.
