The Fisherman's House

The Matejević family's house in Vlaka Bay, in the family since 1964 and run today by the third generation. The boat goes out every day, so the menu begins with the morning's catch — fish done the old Dalmatian way, with a quiet Central European accent — and carries on with vegetables, olive oil, wine and rakija from the family's own land. Tables stand in the garden above the moorings, a cat patrols the terrace, and a few simple pension rooms let the evening stretch into the night. Reached by boat, and worth the crossing.
